With so many cities around the globe erecting futuristic glass towers, it’s refreshing to see a place like Salvador, which is completing a five-year historic preservation initiative led by the government. The colonial city is chock full of colorful baroque buildings dating back to the days when it was a major stopover on the slave trade. To this day, it remains a nexus for Afro-Brazilian music.
